Wind farms in Oklahoma: Your tax money helps pay for it, but is it worth the price?

The wind industry is growing rapidly, and tax credits are based partly on production. The more megawatts generated, the more the state pays. And how many megawatts are produced depends partly on something that nobody can control or predict — the wind.

“There’s no way for the state of Oklahoma to budget how much we’re going to spend on that tax credit. Everybody’s guessing. And guessing is no way to run a state budget.” After the initial construction is finished, a wind development creates only a handful of jobs. It will never be a major employer compared to other industries.
